MEET NETTIE GOULD
Having grown up away from the Yakama reservation in Vancouver, Washington, Nettie learned early on how important it was to stay adaptable as she navigated as an urban Indigenous person. Fitness became an important piece of this learning early on. In kindergarten, her mother (Yakama (Klickitat and Cascade Band) Warm Springs and Wasco) and father (Cheyenne and Arapaho) placed her in the Boys and Girls Club, where she began playing basketball. As the years progressed, she began to travel alongside her cousins, competing in co-ed Native American basketball tournaments, attending training camps, and vying for playing time on her club team.
In 2010, Nettie made it as a walk-on and played point guard at The Evergreen State College in Washington State. Unfortunately, numerous cartilage tears in her knee would result in an abrupt end to her college basketball career. As a means of adapting, she would soon venture into a new area of fitness - bikini bodybuilding competitions.
In 2016, Nettie made the bold decision to leave her corporate job and follow her passion for fitness full-time, founding N8V Butterfly Training, LLC, a personal training business specializing in adaptable sports endurance, bodybuilding, and postpartum programming. With deep roots in Indian Country, and a firm understanding of the unique challenges and social dynamics associated with being Indigenous, Nettie ensures her tribal traditions and values centering reciprocity and balance are reflected in her wellness practice and client care.
Nettie was featured on the Share Your Story podcast, where she offers listeners a glimpse into her professional wellness journey, being a mother and navigating as an entrepreneur.
